Blavatsky
Original sense
Thought, she taught, is a force that shapes subtle matter. Strong thoughts persist in the astral light as forms, influence others, and become the machinery of much so-called magic. She did not yet have the illustrated taxonomy of 1901, but the physics is hers: mind impresses Akasha/astral light via Fohat.
Thoughts are things — have tenacity, coherence, and life… they are born, grow, and die like living creatures.
Annie Besant and C. W. Leadbeater’s Thought-Forms (1901), with its famous colour plates, is the immediate parent of New Age visualization culture and, more distantly, of the Law of Attraction’s ‘thoughts create reality.’
